SOME  INFO ON EXHAUST SYSTEMS THAT MIGHT HELP

 

WE ALL KNOW HOW EXHAUST HEADERS WORK AND HOW THEY HELP WITH PERFORMANCE, BUT THAT’S ONLY PART OF YOUR EXHAUST SYSTEM. I SEE CARS THAT COULD BE INCREDIBLY FAST IF THEY JUST DID A LITTLE RESEARCH FIRST.

BUYING DISCOUNTED, NO NAME MUFFLERS IS NOT THE ANSWER.

AFTER YOU SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED DOLLARS TO GET YOUR MOTOR JUST RIGHT, WHY WOULD YOU PUT $20.00 MUFFLERS ON IT? WE’VE SEEN SOME NICE CARS WITH JUNK UNDERNEATH THEM.

GO FOR THE BRAND NAME STUFF, LIKE FLOWMASTER, MAGNAFLOW OR BORLA. SURE, THEY COST MORE BUT THEY DO SO MUCH MORE FOR YOUR PERFORMANCE THAT THEY’RE WORTH  THE EXTRA MONEY. IF A MUFFLER SHOP WANTS TO PUT ON $24.OO MUFFLERS FOR YOU THEY PROBABLY ONLY PAY $9.00 OR SO FOR THEM. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU?

MOST MODERATELY BUILT SMALL BLOCK ENGINES WILL RUN GREAT ON 2 ½ INCH PIPE, BUT IF YOU BOOST IT UP TO 3 INCH YOU  WILL MOST  LIKELY LOSE YOUR BOTTOM END POWER. IT WILL RUN OKAY BUT YOU WON’T GET THE HORSEPOWER CURVE UNTIL YOU START  HITTING THE HIGHER RPMS. I’M SURE OUR BUDDIES MEAN WELL, BUT THEY ARE NOT EXPERTS BECAUSE THEY READ A MAGAZINE ARTICLE ON EXHAUST SYSTEMS.  USE MUFFLERS THAT ARE FREE FLOWING... AS MOST QUALITY PERFORMANCE MUFFLERS ARE.

USE EXHAUST PIPE THAT IS NO MORE THAN 2 ½ INCH DIA, AND SPEND A FEW BUCKS MORE FOR THE ALUMINIZED PIPE. IT LOOKS GREAT, WILL STAY THAT WAY, AND WON’T BE  RUSTED THROUGH IN A YEAR.

ALSO, RUN YOUR PIPE ALL THE WAY OUT THE REAR OF THE CAR. PUTTING ON TURN-DOWNS IN FRONT OF THE REAR END DOES TWO THINGS:

1. IT LETS THE EXHAUST FUMES FLOAT UP UNDER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF YOUR CAR, DUMPING CARBON MONOXIDE RIGHT INTO YOUR CAR. (NOT A GOOD PICTURE?)

2. YOU’VE SEEN THE GUY THAT CRUISES BY JUST AFTER YOU’VE DUSTED YOUR CAR OFF FOR THE 10TH TIME BLOWING CRAP ALL OVER THE PLACE WITH HIS TURN DOWNS . THAT WILL BE YOU AT YOUR NEXT CRUISE.

FINALLY, ALL CARS WILL CREATE A VORTEX BEHIND THE CAR WITH THE PIPES OUT THERE, CAN’T BE HELPED. AS LONG AS YOUR TRUNK LID SEAL IS GOOD IT WON’T BE A PROBLEM.
