DISC BRAKE CONVERSION

 

DISC BRAKE CONVERSIONS ARE FAIRLY COMMON NOW THAT ALL OF THE BIG COMPANIES HAVE TAKEN ALL THE  MYSTERY OUT OF  BUYING THE CORRECT PARTS OR KITS.

HOWEVER, I STILL SEE GUYS AT SWAP MEETS SELLING WHOLE SPINDLE SETS THAT WILL WORK ON ALMOST ANY CAR YOU TELL THEM YOU HAVE,

BE CAREFUL, THIS IS NOT TRUE, AND ONCE YOU BUY THESE PARTS AND GET THEM HOME, TEAR DOWN YOUR CAR, AND FIGURE OUT THEY WON’T WORK, YOUR SWAP MEET BUDDY IS LONG GONE WITH YOUR MONEY.

SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY AND BUY THE NEW STUFF UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR SURE THE PARTS WILL WORK. THERE'S NO WORSE A FEELING THAN TO PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN ON THE  PEDAL AND YOUR CAR SEEMS TO GO FASTER. ‘BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT’

 

ALSO KEEP IN MIND THAT AFTER YOU’VE SPENT THE DAY CONVERTING YOUR CAR TO DISC BRAKES, YOUR OLD RIMS MAY NOT FIT. MOST CALIPERS ARE MADE TO CLEAR A RIM DESIGNED BY THE CAR MANUFACTURER TO DO JUST THAT. THIS IS VERY COMMON ON 60s AND 70s CARS  THAT STILL HAVE 14" RIMS AND TIRES. THEY WILL NOW NEED TO BE 15” OR LARGER TO CLEAR YOUR DISC BRAKES.
